John Edwards filed the lawsuit Thursday on behalf of the three men: 41-year-old Jose Erasmo Hernandez of Durham; 33-year-old Jose Luis Lopez-Ramirez of Clinton; and 33-year-old Anderson Almeida of Durham. The three fell to their deaths March 23.
They were dismantling a mast climber on the 11-story Charter Square building when the exterior lift system collapsed. The lawsuit filed in Durham County Superior Court said the four companies contributed to the victims' wrongful death. GREENSBORO Minor charged in double homicide Authorities in Greensboro said a 13- year-old is charged with two counts of first -degree murder in a December double homicide. A statement from Greensboro police said officers arrested the teenager without incident Thursday in connection with a shooting on Dec. He faces charges in the shooting deaths of 23-year-old Ernest Lemark Cuthbertson and 44-year-old Jeffrey Devine Hampton.
Police said the teen was an acquaintance of Cuthbertson. Detectives said the shootings followed a dispute among Cuthbertson, Hampton, a 17-year-old also charged with murder in the case, and others. The detectives said the cause of the dispute and motive for the shootings remain unclear. Budget Director Lee Roberts is returning to the private sector and Revenue Secretary Lyons Gray is moving to the state Utilities Commission. Gray's departure wasn't surprising, since McCrory announced last April the former state legislator was his next choice to join the commission.
Roberts' departure hadn't been telegraphed. The banker only became budget director in September 2014. DEATHS MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) A $25 million trashto-fuel facility in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle can set a standard in solidwaste recovery, officials said at a groundbreaking ceremony. The ceremony was held Wednesday for Entsorga West Virginia's facility in Martinsburg. Construction is expected to begin in the spring and the plant is anticipated to open in early 2017 with 20 workers.
It will use a mechanical biological treatment system to organize incoming waste without the need for employees to sort it by hand. Entsorga said the facility will divert solid waste from landfills and use it to produce alternative fuels. The plant i is on 12 acres leased by the Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority and is expected to accept up to about 10,000 tons of solid waste per month. In August the state Economic Development Authority board in Charleston authorized a 15 year bond to finance the project: The facility, which will convert household waste Recycle this newspaper. into clean-burning solid fuel, "will be a model for the rest of the country," said Pietro Cella Mazzariol, chief executive officer and director of Tortona, Italybased Entsorga Italia.
