“Since the days of our first parents in the Garden of Eden, worship has walked a tightrope between lifestyle and liturgy. When God walked in the Garden with His first children in the cool of the day, Adam and Eve worshiped Him as we should—without interruption. The Creator and His creatures experienced a continual, ongoing exchange of provision and praise. God provided everything Adam and Eve needed, and they responded with praise—with gratitude, reverence, honor, submission, and holy fear.” ~David Jeremiah
Thelifestyle part of worship is hard, isn’t it? So many things get in the way.
Busyness.
Discouragement.
Distractions.
I want my life to be that offering of worship Paul wrote about…
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Romans 12:1–2 (MSG)
With God’s help, I’d like to add these simple ways to worship and make (that ongoing exchange of provision and praise) part of every day.
12 Simple Ways to Worship God Every Day
1. Start the day with God.
Before I get out of bed, I want to spend 5 minutes thinking about the blessing of knowing that God ispresent in every part of my day.
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;the God of Israel is our fortress.Psalm46:10
2. Get down on your knees to pray.
There is something about humbly kneeling to pray that changes my attitude from self to submission. That’s worship. I want to be intentional about kneeling for prayer several times a week.
Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before theLord our maker, for He is our God.We are the people He watches over, the flock under his care. Psalm 95:6–7
3. Write 7 things you’re thankful for every day.
The number 7 stands for completion throughout the Bible. Writing 7 things I’m thankful for just seems like the perfect way to remember God’s completely perfect provision.
Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 106:1
4. Be awe-mazed at who God is and what He does.
I want to watch for miracles. Write down answers to prayer. Notice the variety in creation. Pay attention to the ways God is working around you. And celebrate who He is and all He does.
Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim Your greatness. Psalm 145:6
5. Sing and dance like David.
I love this one … turn up the praise music and dance with joy.
I don’t dance in the car but I do love to sing and it’s hard to be impatient with other drivers when my heart is filled with worship.
Your kids will love it if you sing and dance with them, too!
And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. 2 Samuel 6:14
They should praise Him with dancing. They should sing praises to Him with tambourines and harps. Psalm 149:3
6. Take a fast from grumbling.
Most of us don’t realize how much we grumble and complain.
So, I’m making it a goal to set aside specific times when I will absolutely refuse to be negative. I will surrender the junk in my life to God, do what I can, and do my best to shine…
Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Philippians 2:14–15
7. Read a Psalm to start the day.
So many of the Psalms are pure worship and they consistently remind me of who God is and all He does. And He’s still doing it all today. Tomorrow looks good too! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Psalm 19:7–8
8, Intentionally surrender yourday to God.
A dear friend taught me this morning prayer…
Lord, I have surrendered this day to You. I will follow where You guide and do Your will as You reveal it to me. Please help me to fulfill this promise that my life might glorify You alone. Amen.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
9. Go outside and take a walk—enjoy God’s creation.
It’s so easy to get distracted by entertainment, social media, and life’s demands. I need to remember to take a break and enjoy the beauty that’s right outside my door.
The heavens proclaim the glory of God.The skies display His craftsmanship.Day after day they continue to speak;night after night they make Him known. Psalm 19:1–2
10. Remember blessing anniversaries and celebrate the moments of God’s grace.
This is another favorite … we mark our calendar and celebrate blessing anniversaries like the Children of Israel celebrated the Passover. A few ideas are … Baptism birthdays. The day you met your spouse. The day you got engaged. The day you received good news from the doctor. Etc.
I will remember the things the Lord has done. Yes, I will remember the powerful works of long ago. I will think of all Your work and keep in mind all the great things You have done. Psalm 77:11–12
11.WorshipGod by loving the people in Your life.
You and I were for this time and place. One of the ways I can show God my love and worship is to intentionally love the people in my life.
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.John 13:34
12.Take care of yourself.
If you’re like me, it’s easy to put self-care on the bottom of your to-do list. But God made you and me. He cares and provides for us. He loves us.
We can honor and worship Him by getting enough rest, eating welland staying fit. Then we can be fully equipped to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to the Father.
Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You.Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You. Psalm 143:8
I sometimes think I make worship too complicated.
I want to include simple ways to worship that take my ordinary everyday life and offer it to God as a daily act of worship and love.
